» Affected bikes Teammachine SLR01 DISC Model Years 2018 and 2019
BMC has identified a potential safety issue with certain forks of the TEAMMACHINE SLR01 DISC model that first went on the market in June 2017. This issue exclusively affects the TEAMMACHINE SLR01 DISC model with disc brakes from the Model Years 2018 and 2019. Bikes from Model Year 2020 are not affected.
Having identified a technical problem with a part of the fork, it is now imperative that retailers carry out safety checks. The steerer tube of certain fork models used with these bicycles may crack or break during normal use under certain conditions, causing the rider to lose control of the bicycle, fall and be injured.
We have received news of isolated cases of broken steerer tubes, which can be traced back to inconsistencies in the production. While the number of such cases is very low considering the number of bikes that have been delivered, this situation is nonetheless unacceptable given our quality standards. For this reason, BMC has decided to recall all of the TEAMMACHINE SLR01 DISC bikes from Model Years 2018 and 2019 for a precautionary safety check.
Owners of the TEAMMACHINE SLR01 DISC models from Model Year 2018 and 2019 are being asked to immediately stop using their bikes and contact their local BMC authorized dealer for a free inspection and, if their bike has an affected fork, a free replacement fork.
As an authorized dealer, you are being asked to conduct these inspections and replace any affected forks. Affected forks can be identified easily (refer Identification Process). A new version of the fork steerer tube was brought into use for Model Year 2020, which had certain modifications that meant manufacturing tolerances could be better controlled. Those produced in Model Year 2020 are therefore not affected by this voluntary product recall. This specific fork variation was also, however, used in part during Model Year 2019 production, which means that each bike in MY2019 must be checked individually.
Should the bike have an affected fork, it may not under any circumstances be ridden again until the fork has been successfully replaced. This is due to the potential risk of injury.
The results positive or negative's of every safety check must be reported to BMC (see Recall Communication form below).
Replacement forks are expected to be available in relevant numbers from December 2019 onwards.
All of the relevant documents required for the safety check can be found on webshop. Please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), which tackles many queries and the affected models.
